Heinz “Enrique” Talg Schulz

A truly ‘self-made man’. Born in Horndorf near Lüneburg. he began his career as an apprentice waiter at the hotel “Weisser Ross” in Lüneburg. After the Great War he felt the urge to spread his wings and this brought him to the Hotel Palace in Madrid. Later he was manager and leaseholder of the restaurant of the Gran Hotel Peinador in the Galician spa town of Mondariz, at that time a favourite for those suffering from diabetes. The hotel was only open during the summer months so he  took on enthusiastically the offer of leasing the Hotel Quisisana in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, as it was only open during the winter season in those days. From 1934 to 1952 he was Director of the Hotel Taoro, when Gustavo Wildpret was in charge, after the latter’s death he acquired the hotel on lease
until it was taken over by the HUSA hotel chain. From 1952 to 1963, he was Director and leaseholder of the old Hotel Martiánez. Over the same period, he was involved together with his son in the building of the Hotel Tigaiga, which would be opened in 1959. He married the Swissborn Ida Wyss, who died in 1932, their son Enrique came into the world the summer of 1924 in Vigo (northern Spain). Later he married Helene Wichmann-Graf of Hambur g. In 1950 he took Spanish nationality. After his death in 1962 he was honoured by the town authorities of Puerto de la Cruz naming a street after him.
